Bachelor of Software Engineering

ELLA HAWKINS
Kia Ora, I'm Ella, a Bachelor of Software Engineering student specializing in artificial intelligence and computer vision. I have gained hands-on experience through various projects, learning everything from web development and design to game development. My favorite project is a predator detection system for wildlife protection, which was a highlight of my time at Yoobee. This project showcased my ability to combine machine learning algorithms with real-world applications, enhancing my proficiency in Python and leveraging frameworks like Flask for efficient deployment. The experience not only strengthened my technical skills but also fueled my passion for creating impactful AI-driven solutions.
My first year of studies was the stand out year that deepened my passion for programming and accelerated my skill development. Under the mentorship of Rob, a phenomenal tutor, He taught me the foundational skills that became the baseline for my journey in programming. This helped me secure a software engineering position early in my second year. This opportunity allowed me to apply my expanding technical expertise to real-world challenges. I remain driven by a passion for continuous learning in software engineering and computer vision.

This is the landing page of the real time predator detection application we made for a computer vision assignment.

Here is that same assignments main page in action, taking a given image and alerting that there is a dog and a bird in the image.

This is a WIP for an image colorization model, the AI model gets fed the grayscale image to detect and predict the colors the original image is just for reference, it has some more training to go. But it's in a good place.

A little roguelike game I made for a second year assignment where you run around in a little dungeon fighting bats and goblins until you die or find the boss.

The Miro cinema project is a year one project where we learned how to use html CSS and JavaScript, it feels like this was so long ago now!

Here is our image colorization model with a higher definition image.
