Bachelor of Software Engineering

TAEHG HUMPHRIES
Through this Bachelor's in Software Engineering, my academic journey has centered around machine learning, with a particular focus on Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), and deep learning techniques.
My projects have shifted to converting images to the L*a*b* color space near the end of my studies as I have explored new fields of AI. I've developed practical skills in data transformation, model training, and implementing complex AI architectures. I have found a lot of fun in experimenting and testing the limits of AI, especially in crafting intelligent systems that evolve through sophisticated machine learning models.

Leveraging AI for Wildlife Conservation
This project was about using AI to spot and control pests in New Zealand. The goal was to
make a web app with Flask that could detect animals like predators and pests using models like
YOLOv8, VGG-16, and Faster R-CNN. We faced some challenges with setting up data, training
the models, and getting everything to work smoothly together, but in the end, we built a cool app
that can spot certain bird species with impressive accuracy! We learned that great data and
enough computing power make a big difference. Next steps? Fine-tune the data and boost the
tech so it can handle more, like spotting animals in videos. This project helps protect New
Zealand’s wildlife and shows how AI can be used for big, eco-friendly projects!
